This problem will depend on what was really the cause of the problem where we should start from the basic. Some of these are sound card problem that you need to shutdown your computer, then re-insert your sound card to your motherboard slot. Other common way to fix this is problem is to find and re-install the soundcard driver or the integrated audio device of the motherboard in your pc with the model...but, some will work and some are not, this is to tiring to do for me,.let me share to you the other way of getting your system sounds works normal again...just follow the few steps....Hope this will help.

1. First go to start and click RUN. Then type

services.msc

2. Then you can see this pop up, you can click this pic to enlarge, then scroll down the right below and find the Windows Audio and double click to open.

3. As you are done opening,.you will see this pop-up below...and follow the number steps..like what is in the pics..you can click to enlarge.

4. See to it that the Startup Type is set to Automatic and click Start button under Service Status, Then click apply and ok.The windows Audio service should restart and the error with the volume control should be resolved.

5. You can restart your computer when you're done and try playing some music. Try your comment here after following this few steps so that I can help.
