Macao, China - Manny Pacquiao defends his WBO World Welterweight Championship against unbeaten American challenger Chris Algieri LIVE from the Cotai Arena, Macau. Win, and Pacquaio knows he's a step closer to that elusive and hugely anticipated fight with pound-for-pound king Floyd Mayweather.
Manny Pacquiao and Chris Algieri stepped on the scales in front of a large crowd at the the Cotai Arena. The future hall-of-famer in Pacquiao weighed in comfortably at 143.8, while Algieri missed the catchweight mark of 144 lbs on his first attempt. Algieri needed to shed an extra .2 lbs, and after a couple of minutes, he weighed in at 143.6, making tomorrow's bout official. Chris Algieri did just that on the eve of his title try against World Boxing Organization (WBO) kingpin Manny Pacquiao, initially failing to make the contracted 144-pound limit and having to come back for another crack within two hours or risk losing his chance at a new crown. Will it be an upset for Chris?
Manny Pacquiao on his second reign as World Boxing Organization (WBO) welterweight champion, the 35-year-old Filipino will climb into the ring Saturday with challenger Chris Algieri at a 144-pound catch-weight, with an eye on perhaps moving back down the weight ladder he's been climbing for more than a decade. This would be great.
Fight prediction - It could end early. It could go the distance. I did Pacquaio to wrap it up in Round 6 @ 12/1. This could go either way. Algieri looks confident and cocky like. Manny should not let this get out of hand or it will be Marquez all over again. A counter puncher in Algieri will trouble Manny. It should be a cracker. What's your prediction too regarding this fight? This is not gonna be an easy for Manny. People who knows boxing might be given 50-50. Algieri is a tough and younger fighter. This kid is not only tough but smart, taller, bigger and with more reach and hes using all to his advantage! Im going for Manny but if Algieri wins I wont b surprised! This is gonna b a better fight than people think.
While Hall of Famer Coach Freddie Roach expects the PacMan to stop New York’s Chris Algieri but there is more at stake in Macau’s sold-out Cotai Arena than the world welterweight title.Pacquiao has to win to keep alive the chance of finally meeting Mayweather in what could become a billion dollar super-fight. But if he does so in devastating fashion then Floyd the Money man might shy away from jeopardising his unbeaten record.
My prediction, just my opinion, after over 40 years in boxing, martial art, kick boxing and of course Taekwondo, I see, what I believe, that few see. in comparison to the majority who believe Manny will KO Algieri or win on points. I may be wrong. Ive heard tons of pre fight predictions of many on you tube, many tend to Manny, many see it as a walk over for Manny, Its boxing one punch can end the bout, so its just my opinion, please dont curse. Chris has the skill set and power to dominate or even knock out Manny. He can fight as 147, 154 pounder and he has regenerated very well from weight loss. We all dont know what Chris game plan is besides making assumptions, same goes out to Manny.
But we know, he is the bigger of the two, better schooled boxer, tremendous jab, a ring general. Manny, can be explosive, fast hands, decent footwork, power now is very questionable going by his last fights.Manny has made up for his mistakes in the past against opponents with his speed, combinations, power punches, I say ok footwork which is overrated. he is coming against an opponent who has a better footwork and wont stand infront of him. Chris is the Floyd, Lara, Ward type of boxer, hit and move, slip punches, sting with the jab, follow up with power shots, breaking down opponents, ring generalship, smothering and negating attacks, clinching etc. . He's a boxer with very good intangibles. Algieri is not Bradley nor Margarito nor Rios nor Hatton, nor a drained DLH, all great fighters, not here to knock on any one, but they all have the same thing in common, they stay infront of you, sometimes relentless coming forward, little or no head movements, only one does it more than the other.
Will it be the fight of the century? Or a fight that what we see is the real upset? What do you think guys? I go for Pacquiao to win this fight to fight a mega fight for Floyd Mayweather but I do also favor Algieri to win this bout for the new generation of boxers coming in. But all in all, I'll pick Manny to win this bout. But it's hard to predict who will be winning and all will say and witness it in the ring of Pacquiao vs Algieri fight this night.
