The greatest fight ever to happen between Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao regarded as "Fight of the Century".
Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr. will meet at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas to contest the welterweight championship, the notional title of premier boxer of their generation and the even more notional title of best pound-for-pound boxer in the world — although Mayweather, 38, and Pacquiao, 36, have faded from their primes, and there are other boxers currently better than both.
According to Mike Webber, "I feel that Pacquiao's defense has been greatly underrated by most boxing fans, maybe because its his offense that simply steals the show. However I would admit that his defense is not as good as Money May's, its good but not as good. The Marquez punch is actually a blessing in disguise for Manny, because since that knock out, everyone has been trying to replicate that Marquez punch, everyone wants to catch Pacquiao coming in with a perfectly timed looping right hand. Thing is, no one knows that punch better than Pacquiao, I think Manny watched that punch more than a hundred times and now, as we've seen with his post 2012 fights, his defense has improved, he's less careless, less wild, and thinks more. Sadly his punch output has also decreased, he doesn't throw, 6-800 punches anymore, but ultimately, he's a more well rounded fighter. Still more aggressive than most, still fast, still accurate and with a lot of power. If they do fight, I would have to bet on Pacquiao. If history shows us something the only way to defeat the guy is by knocking him out, Erik Morales defeated him before he was able to develop his right hand and become a 2 handed fighter. Floyd, with all his merits was never really a knock out artist. especially not now, that Ortiz KO doesn't really count."
Most people seem to be picking Mayweather to win on Saturday night and that’s fine with Roach as he loves being the underdog. “We are definitely underdogs and we love being the underdogs going into the fight. We’re making a little extra money at the window and I love that when I’m an underdog” Roach said.
Despite Pacquiao’s underdog status Roach believes his fighter will be victorious come Saturday saying “I do think we’ll knock him out in about the 9th round.”
Mayweather and Pacquiao will both weigh in somewhere near 147 pounds, and Mayweather’s only an inch and a half taller, but when they stand next to each other you can see that he has a much bigger frame. Pacquiao looks birdlike next to the leonine Mayweather, and has to eat his way up toward the welterweight limit rather than train down under it. Pacquiao has done well in the past against bigger men, but he was younger then, and those bigger men were willing to engage. Now, as his own speed and vitality wane, he has to carry the fight to a bigger man who’s content to hold him off and do just enough to win rounds.
Pacquiao (57-5-2) was all smiles before making his entrance following ring announcer Michael Buffer's introduction. Pacquiao was the more popular boxer in the arena, and even stopped to take a selfie with the crowd. Pacquiao also thanked Mayweather for making the fight happen.
"The fans deserve this fight," Pacquiao said. "This is a great responsibility for me to give enjoyment to the fans. The fans deserve to have a good fight. If you're a fan of Mayweather or a fan of Manny Pacquiao, you deserve to have a good fight."
Mayweather (47-0) was booed in his home arena, where he will be fighting for the 14th time, and 11th consecutive. Mayweather was extremely serious, never once changing his stern facial expression. The pro-Pacquiao crowd never really gave Mayweather a reason to smile.
"My thing is to focus what I've got to do tomorrow," Mayweather said in a post-weigh-in interview with Jim Gray. "I've dedicated myself to the sport of boxing for over 20 years and I'm ready. I'm ready to fight."
